Part 1: Paint Grade Wood Finishing

wood finishing: paint grade

Prep to Finish wood finishing class…

Prep to Finish appeared at JLC Live for the fourth consecutive year in 2015. This time, in addition to making sponsor appearances on the Exhibition Hall Floor, Todd and Scott presented class room based clinics on behalf of the event.

JLC Live is a four day event that took place at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence on March 18-21, and it is one of the largest, most exciting remodeling industry shows in the country.

One of the classes presented by P2F was a Wood Finishing: “Soup to Nuts”, covering both paint grade and stain/clear wood prep and finishing sequences, complete with live demonstrations and Power Point visual support.

The class was well attended and featured exceptional professional dialogue between the crowd and presenters.

The video (above) shows highlights from the first half of the class, which was about paint grade wood prep, priming and finishing.

Topics covered include:

  • fastener depth
  • nail hole filling
  • prep sanding
  • grit stepping
  • primer application
  • grain raising
  • caulking tips
  • finishing
  • application methods
  • flashing

We thank the professionals who attended our JLC classes in 2015 and look forward to meeting more pros in the road in 2015 and beyond!
